Welcome to the Nutrition Services Department. St. Francis Area Schools provide students with access to a variety of foods that meet the health and nutritional needs of our students. We serve foods that meet state and federal requirements, which are based on the USDA Dietary Guidelines.
School meals feed the future!
Nutrition Standards for School Meals
Healthy Hunger Free Kids Act (HHFKA) meal patterns are followed, featuring complex carbohydrates such as whole grain bread products, fruits & vegetables, lean protein and low-fat dairy. Saturated fat content is reduced to less than 10%, no trans fat and lower sodium products are sought out.
HHFKA meal regulations require students to take a half cup of fruits or vegetables with each meal. Students will be asked to make a selection of fruit or vegetables if they do not have it on their tray. If students refuse the fruit or vegetable, they will be charged à la carte prices for the items on their tray.
A la carte extras such as an extra entree and extra milk are for sale in the cafeterias
Smart Snacks, or à la carte extras, are for sale in cafeterias
