The Minnesota Department of Education’s (MDE) report for high school graduation rates for 2023 showed an increased graduation rate for students in St. Francis Area Schools.

The 2023 overall district four-year graduation rate was 89.7%, a 1.1% increase from last year. St. Francis High School recorded a 94.2% graduation rate, a 3.3% increase from 2022 and the best percentage in the last five years. The MDE reported an 83.3% graduation rate for the state, putting SFAS 6.4% above the state average.

The district established a goal at the beginning of the school year to increase the percentage of students who graduate from 88% to 93% with a stretch goal of 95% within four years (by 2026-27).

Some strategies implemented or planned for high school students to help to increase graduation rates include:

  • Saints Time, which is daily intervention for all classes for students who need additional help.

  • Early intervention with underclassmen falling behind.

  • Increased communications between the school and parents and between students and teachers.

  • Reviews of grade reports to monitor student progress and address concerns.
