Five members of the St. Francis High School boys track and field team and one student-athlete on the girls track and field team will compete at the Minnesota State High School League Class AA Track and Field State Meet June 7-8.

Running and field events begin at 9 a.m. both Friday and Saturday at St. Michael-Albertville High School. View more information about the MSHSL Track and Field State Meet.

Junior Sam Ruid guides the Saints into the state meet after claiming the Section 5AA Championship in both the discus and shot put. He will be making his first appearance at the state meet.

“It was really exciting [winning both events],” Ruid said. “I almost figured I was going to be up there for the discus, but for shot put I was struggling a little bit, so I’m happy I was able to pull through.”

Senior Evan Peterson will join Ruid in the discus after placing second at sections. Ruid has the sixth best mark in the field at 162 feet, 1 inch, while Peterson posted a qualifying throw of 145-8. Ruid recorded a throw of 48-1 ¾ to win the section title in the shot put.

“Hopefully I can PR [in the discus] at state,” Ruid said. “I’m just a few inches away from the school record, so that is my main goal for discus. We are hoping everyone on the team places well at state.”

Junior Wyatt Lind is set to compete in the triple jump and high jump. Sophomore Charles Narcum also qualified for the triple jump. Lind enters the triple jump with a mark of 43-1 ½, while Narcum owns a leap of 42-11. They finished third and fifth, respectfully, in the section meet. In the high jump, Lind was tied for second at the section meet with a mark of 6-2.

Junior Jacob Tilly is set to compete in the long jump. His mark of 21-3 ½ was third at the section meet.

For the girls, eighth-grader Anniston Rolf will compete in the 1600m run. She placed second at the section meet with a time of 5:29.90.
