Students at Cedar Creek Elementary School (CCES) had a special visitor during I Love to Read Month, as author and presenter Kevin Lovegreen brought some of his stories to life on Feb. 27.
A Minnesota native, Lovegreen has published more than 20 books for young readers about amazing hunting and fishing adventures, in the one-of-a-kind book series, Lucky Luke’s Adventures. To complement the books, he uses his unique outdoor theme to inspire, teach and entertain kids through high energy and engaging presentations around the country. Lovegreen not only shared his unique path to becoming an author, but inspired the students to write by talking about how he creates a story and how to bring that story to life. Following his one hour presentation where he gave writing tips, talked about some of his adventures and demonstrated wild animal calls, he left the students with one final piece of advice - The more you read the smarter you will be.
"100% I do this to create a reading frenzy with the kids. That is the ultimate goal,” Lovegreen said. "The presentation causes them to feel part of the adventure. I like their energy and excitement for the animals. It’s fun."
Lovegreen’s books are popular in the CCES library and many students raised their hands when he asked if they had read any of his books. There was even a small group that said they had read all his books. Prior to his visit students had a chance to order books from his series and they were signed by Lovegreen.
