St. Francis High School (SFHS) has announced Alexa Skogquist as the school’s 2024-25 Athena Award recipient, which recognizes senior female athletes for their dedication in the classroom, in competition and in the community.
Skogquist has been submitted as SFHS’s nominee for the state award, which will be announced at the 53rd Annual Minneapolis Athena Awards luncheon on Friday, May 2 at the Heritage Center of Brooklyn Center.
A three-sport athlete, Skogquist has earned at least all-conference honors in all three sports during her high school career and was named a four-time member of the Gold Academic Tennis Team. Skogquist is actively involved with volunteering for the Parker Peterson Memorial Fund, which brings mental health awareness into schools and provides scholarships to graduating seniors at SFHS. She has committed to Bemidji State University on a softball scholarship and intends to major in psychology.
Softball: A member of the varsity softball team since eighth grade … Named All-State Honorable Mention as a junior in 2024 to help guide the Saints to a third place finish at the Class AAA State Tournament (first state appearance in 41 years) … Named all-section and all-conference twice … Reached 100 career hits during the state tournament in 2024 … Ranks among the program’s all-time leaders in hits, RBIs and doubles … Once hit a school-record three homeruns in one game and tied the team record for most homeruns in a season … Served as a captain and was named the team’s offensive MVP twice.
Tennis: Earned five varsity letters on the Saints Girls Tennis Team … Was a Section 7AA Semifinalist … Named all-conference four times … Recognized as a member of the Mississippi 8 Doubles Team of the Year twice … A team captain … Finished her career with the most wins by a doubles player in program history … Owns the program record for most wins (83) and the highest winning percentage (78%).
Basketball: Earned two varsity letters for the basketball team … Named all-conference honorable mention as a sophomore … Recognized as the team’s Offensive MVP.
About the award: The Athena Award is given to one senior girl athlete from each participating school who has distinguished herself in special individual athletic achievement or superior achievements in one or more sports.
